What Are Metal-Free Dental Restorations?
Metal-free restorations refer to various dental treatments including:
- Composite resin tooth-colored fillings
- Fixed bridges that match your smile
- Tooth-colored dental crowns
- Inlays and onlays
The materials that we use for our metal-free restorations include zirconia, ceramic, and composite resin. Composite resin is a special blend of plastics and glass that mimics the natural shade of your teeth. Each of these metal-free options can provide you with a strong, functional, natural, healthy, and more beautiful-looking smile.
Benefits of Receiving Metal-Free Dental Restorations
Dr. Miller offers metal-free restorations at his practice because of the many advantages that they can bring you. Many patients think that metal restorations are stronger, which makes them a better option. However, this material can actually lead to additional dental damage and it’s incredibly noticeable. We use metal-free dental restorations to give our patients benefits like:
Your smile will look completely natural, allowing you to flash your grin with confidence.
With proper care, your metal-free restorations can last over a decade. They’re also stain resistant, making it much harder to discolor your newly restored smile.
If you’re allergic or sensitive to metal, you won’t have to worry about having a reaction or experiencing discomfort.
Metal restorations like amalgam fillings typically contain mercury, which has been linked to various overall health problems.
Metal-Free Dental Restoration Process
The process will depend on the type of restoration that you need. Tooth-colored fillings can be placed in just one easy appointment. Dr. Miller will remove any damaged or decayed areas of your tooth and apply the composite resin to replace and strengthen your dental structure.
If you have more extensive damage or decay, we will restore your smile with a metal-free dental crown, bridge, inlay, or onlay. This will typically take two different visits to our office. During your first, we will remove the damaged or decayed structure, followed by removing a slight portion of your tooth enamel to accommodate your restoration.
Once your tooth is prepared, we’ll take images and impressions of your smile to create your custom-made metal-free restoration. While you wait, you’ll be given a temporary restoration to maintain your smile’s appearance and function. Once your restoration is fabricated, you’ll come in for a final visit where Dr. Miller will permanently restore your smile for an amazingly functional and natural-looking set of teeth.
