How Dental Insurance Works
Dental insurance policies are all a little different. Our team will want to review your individual plan to ensure we offer an accurate estimate for the out-of-pocket costs of dental care. Most insurance policies will offer coverage for a percentage of the cost of certain treatments in exchange for the payment of a monthly treatment. While every policy is different, most insurers offer some combination of the following dental care benefits:
- 100% preventive care covered
- Minor restorative care around 70%-80% covered
- Major restorative care around 50%
What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?
Dental and medical insurance policies differ in a number of ways, but perhaps the most significant difference is what treatments are covered. Medical benefits are typically utilized for emergencies and managing chronic conditions, including covering the cost of prescription medications. Dental insurance emphasizes preventive care to keep smiles healthy and avoid the need for more advanced treatments.
In-Network vs Out-of-Network Dentistry
Another way that medical and dental insurance differs is how they treat networks. Medical insurance networks are strict lines. In most cases, your insurer will not provide coverage (or they’ll provide less) if you visit an out-of-network medical office. Dental insurance policies allow for greater flexibility, but there are some advantages to visiting an in-network provider.
In-Network Coverage
If you visit an in-network dentist, you can rest assured that the dentist has agreed to the maximum treatment pricing set by your insurer. In-network dental offices are also more familiar with your plan’s covered services, annual maximums, and other restrictions and limitations. In short, an in-network dentist may be better able to ensure you have the lowest out-of-pocket costs. We are in-network with the following insurers:
Out of Network Coverage
In addition to in-network insurance plans, we’re happy to process claims for other insurance providers. While we don’t agree to your plan’s set pricing, our fees are typically in line with these set maximums. In rare cases, our fees may be higher, but any additional pricing should be negligible. If you’re concerned about coverage or pricing, please let one of our team members know. We’re here to help.
